The Nest Coworking Space Celebrates Its Second Year

The Nest coworking space, a program of the Greater Peoria EDC Startup Peoria and located in the Warehouse District above Sugar Bistro, is celebrating its second birthday on July 29. The Nest is a shared office environment that combines the flexibility independent professionals have with the connectedness they need. Coworking is a sustainable alternative to the isolation and distraction of home offices and cafés.

Nest memberships are low cost and low risk. There are no leases to sign and new members can join at any time. The perks are numerous: open office plan, gigabit WiFi from i-TV3 Fiber, free coffee, discounts on events, bookable meeting rooms, a culture of positivity and much more.

Entrepreneurs and InnovationThe public can visit for free on Wednesdays from 9am – 5pm during the open coworking weekly event that allows anyone to try out The Nest.

“During the design phase, we left quite a bit of the space bare, with the intention of leaving room for future members to give it a personality,” says Randon Gettys, Startup Peoria Coordinator. “On the day The Nest first opened, the office chairs we ordered had not yet arrived, so I had to bring two chairs from home, which was not part of the plan. The Nest is far from perfect, but I am amazed at the way things have progressed throughout the second year, and am excited for the partnerships being developed for our third year and beyond. Ask any member and they will tell you that – in the end – the space is just a few walls and fast internet, that the real value is in the community.”

The Nest is a strategy of Startup Peoria, a SuP small transparent stacked logoprogram that became a part of the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council initiatives in 2015. The Nest is a unique offering in Greater Peoria that fills a need for many budding entrepreneurs.

“The Nest and all of the entrepreneurial programs we work on through Startup Peoria are a critical part of launching and growing new companies in our region,” said Jennifer Daly, CEO for the Greater Peoria EDC. “Having a space like The Nest where entrepreneurs can inexpensively cowork, connect, and find mentors and partners has already led to several great success stories.”

The Greater Peoria EDC is a 501(c) 6 non-profit organization that drives economic growth in a five county region through targeted business and talent development.
