Last year, our goal in Business Attraction was to get out and meet with targeted site selectors and manufacturers to generate leads for Greater Peoria. Over the year, we:
- – Met with over 37 Site Selectors while in Nashville, Atlanta, and Chicago.
- – Attended three manufacturing trade shows: Hannover Messe in Germany, Centralia in Winnipeg, Canada, and the International Manufacturing Technology show in Chicago.
- – Had a booth at the SelectUSA Summit in Washington, DC. Attended by hundreds from over 80 countries.
- – Met with 13 Foreign Consulate offices in Chicago and attended the Midwest Japanese American Conference in St. Louis.
- – Our efforts have generated 9 leads and we hope several will become viable projects for GP in 2017.
But, of course, our team wants even more opportunities! With that in mind, we will be adopting several new and better tools that should leverage our limited resources by allowing us to be more targeted in our attraction marketing. This is what we have planned for 2017 (so get excited!)
The European American Investment Council (EAIC)
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has become one of the major sources of manufacturing jobs in the US. As American manufacturers have moved jobs to China and Mexico, European manufacturers have stepped into the void and created millions of well-paying jobs in local communities all over the United States. In 2014, the cumulative European FDI in the U.S. reached a value of $1.97 Billion which makes Europe by far the most important Foreign Investor in the U.S. Seven European countries ranked among the ten most important foreign investors in the U.S, including the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France and Great Britain. By joining the European American Investment Council (EAIC), we have gained a platform to market Greater Peoria to European investors actively searching for US sites.
OCO Velocity is an online business intelligence platform which identifies the most dynamic and expanding companies for foreign investment across key markets and sectors. Utilizing OCO Velocity in conjunction with trade missions both with the EAIC, Intersect Illinois, and SelectUSA, we will now be able to pre-qualify our leads because we will have in-depth details on these companies including performance, business strategy, and expansion plans.
In today’s fast-paced marketplace, having predictive behavior tools can allow us to analyze the movement of companies looking at our website. HubSpot eliminates the clutter and provides marketing direction, as well as helping us organize our leads, prospects and future projects.
The newly formed Illinois economic development organization, Intersect Illinois, is developing their strategy for the promotion of Illinois globally. They can serve as a lead generator for Greater Peoria and a significant partner in attraction strategy. We will be working closely with their team to amplify our regional efforts.
There are few as connected and passionate about our region as those who live here. We will be working hard in 2017 to leverage our local citizens to help us connect with businesses across the country and all over the world who might consider GP as their newest home.
We will continue to attend trade shows, participate in trade missions, and communicate regularly with global site selectors in 2017, but these new tools should help us get even more targeted in our efforts.
