Live GP Community Tour Helps Boost Recruitment Numbers at Caterpillar

Kate Cundiff, Director of Workforce Solutions

As part of our Live Greater Peoria initiative, we are constantly trying to show prospective candidates of our region’s employers why Greater Peoria is a great place to live and work. At the end of last year, we partnered with Caterpillar to showcase the region to 11 prospective candidates.

A big piece of our concierge service to employers is coordinating community tours for job candidates while they are in town for interviews. We packed all 11 candidates on a charter bus and offered a one-and-a-half hour tour of some of our communities.

We are excited to share that following that tour, Caterpillar reported a very high acceptance rate with 9 out of 11 of the candidates accepting positions at the company.

Rachele Ackerman, Caterpillar Analytics and Digital Recruitment Manager, said she believed partnering with the Live GP tour program was an important component of their higher-than-anticipated acceptance rate.

“Working with Kate and partnering with other community resources to provide prospective candidates with personalized content was a key component to our success and ability to recruit top talent,” said Ackerman.

During the tour, we did a loop around Peoria, Peoria Heights, Chillicothe, East Peoria, Germantown Hills, Metamora, and more. We had Beth Derry from the Regional Office of Education and Becky Petrany of Keller Williams Realty join us to share information on schools, cost of living, and housing options.

Our tour was guided by Tim Cundiff, a Greater Peoria native and champion.  He gave an energetic tour and talked about everything from the history of our communities to all the new and exciting restaurants, shopping malls, and attractions.

We are excited to continue working with Caterpillar’s recruitment team to develop strategies on connecting their newest team members to realtors, schools, and anything else they may need before, during, and after the relocation process.

“Next year we are making plans to expand the event to include spouses and significant others,” said Ackerman.  “Those individuals are a crucial component in the decision making process [of a new recruit].”
