Last October, the GPEDC hosted the Discover Manufacturing Career Expo at Woodruff Career and Technical Center. Six-hundred high school students and 90 middle school students were exposed to modern manufacturing in a hands-on environment. Students were given the opportunity to talk to manufacturing employers and to try their hand at some of the skills required by the manufacturing industry. Some favorites at the expo were an exhibition of robots and the CAT simulator.
“Our goal is to teach kids different kinds of manufacturing — not just engineering. We want to get them interested in the field at an early age and get the trade skills they need,”said Kate Carroll, Director of Workforce Solutions.
